Uni:Note is an iPad note app designed for handwriting with Apple Pencil.
You can separate your work by subject and keep each class in its own note.

Supported setup:

  • iPad only
  • Handwriting is designed for Apple Pencil
  • Finger input is mainly for scrolling and handling attached materials
  • Supported languages: Japanese / English / Korean / German / Traditional Chinese / French

Use Split View, Slide Over, and two panes

Uni:Note supports iPad multiwindow display.

  • Open Uni:Note first and show the Dock
  • Drag another app or Uni:Note to the side of the screen for Split View
  • Place another app or Uni:Note as a floating panel for Slide Over

If you want to use two Uni:Note windows at the same time, open the first one, press and hold the Uni:Note icon in the Dock, and choose the option for opening a new window.
After opening the second window, you can place it side by side for a two-pane Split View, or float it as Slide Over.

The exact UI and labels may differ slightly depending on your iPadOS version.

1. Create a subject on Home

Create a new subject from the + button on Home.

  • Subject name
  • Paper style: ruled / vertical / grid / plain
  • Paper Color
  • Cover color
  • Use as Portrait Notebook when Vertical is selected

The subject is added to Home.
Tap it to open its notes.

If Use as Portrait Notebook is on, the note behaves like this:

  • in landscape: a spread-like layout
  • in portrait: one page at a time
  • scrolling direction: horizontal

After creating a subject, press and hold it on Home to open Edit.
You can change the subject name, paper style, paper color, and cover color later, but the note orientation cannot be changed after creation.

You can also reorder subjects on Home.

2. Open the first note

When you open a new subject for the first time, Uni:Note shows the first note title prompt.

  • Start with OK or Start Writing
  • Entering a title is optional
  • If left blank, today’s date is used as the title
  • If you go back without confirming anything, the first note is not kept

After that, the subject opens the last note you were writing in.

3. Write with Apple Pencil

  • Handwriting is designed for Apple Pencil
  • Regular notes are shown vertically in one continuous flow
  • When you start writing on the last page, the next page is added automatically
  • One note can have up to 150 pages
  • Portrait notebooks show pages horizontally, one by one in portrait orientation

The app is designed so you can open a note and start writing right away.

4. Zoom with two fingers

On the note screen, you can pinch with two fingers to zoom in or out.

If zoom is hard to trigger while you are writing or adjusting a photo, document photo, or PDF, lift your fingers once and try again.

10. Use Recording, Transcription, and AI Summary

Tap the Recording button at the top of the note screen to open the recording panel. Recording, playback, and viewing transcriptions are Premium features.

Basic controls:

  • Start with Recording
  • Use Pause / Resume without ending the recording
  • Use Stop to save
  • Select a saved recording to play it
  • Rename, lock, delete, or share audio when needed

One note can keep up to 5 recordings. Each recording file can be up to 30 minutes long. When a recording reaches 30 minutes, Uni:Note automatically saves that recording and starts the next one. Automatically split recordings count toward the limit of 5 recordings per note. If you return to Uni:Note Home or the iPad goes to sleep while recording, the recording ends and is saved at that point. Doing this during recording may corrupt the recording data. Stop and save the recording before leaving the note or putting the iPad to sleep.

Based on Apple’s transcription-compatible models, real-time transcription and AI Summary are available on the following models running iPadOS 26 or later: iPad mini (6th generation or later), iPad (10th generation or later), iPad Air (4th generation or later), iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd generation or later), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation or later), and iPad Pro 13-inch (M4 or later). On supported devices, real-time transcription can appear while recording. You can change the transcription language from Settings > Recording Transcription Language.

AI Summary is generated from the transcription text created during recording. Audio files are not sent for AI Summary. AI Summary requires AI Balance.

For AI Summary, you can choose a Study or Meeting format. If multiple recordings are selected, Uni:Note keeps the recording boundaries. Before running it, you can check the number of recordings, character count, and estimated AI usage.

11. Use Memorization Feature

First, turn on Memorization Feature in Settings > Study Support.

When enabled, Sticky Marker appears in the palette on the note screen.

  • Choose Sticky Marker
  • Trace the area you want to hide with Apple Pencil
  • Each stroke is saved as one sticky marker
  • Tap a sticky marker with your finger to switch between transparent and opaque
  • Press and hold a sticky marker with your finger, then use the delete button that appears

Old memorization markers from earlier versions are migrated to sticky markers when the page is opened.

To revisit them later, switch Home to Practice Sets and open them from the list there.
